THE ARTIST & THE ASTRONAUT

November 9 @ 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm

$25

Get ready for an unforgettable experience! Join us for an exhilarating screening of The Artist & the Astronaut, a remarkable film brought to life by Bill Muench, the visionary behind the film, and Todd Hobin, the brilliant composer.

ABOUT THE FILM

The Artist & the Astronaut presents a compelling and improbable love story between artist Pat Musick, a civil rights activist, and Apollo astronaut Jerry Carr, as they engage in some of the most significant events in human history. The film features exclusive, previously unreleased footage of early space pioneers and includes interviews with prominent figures from that era, such as Gene Kranz, Al Bean, Frank Borman, Ed Gibson, and Andrew Chaikin. It explores the divergent paths of Pat and Jerry as they navigate tumultuous times, ultimately uniting to create some of America’s most cherished art. The Artist & the Astronaut stands as a tribute to the transformative power of curiosity, perseverance, and empathy.

The creation of this documentary mirrors the unexpected nature of its subject. Bill Muench, a full-time teacher and basketball coach, was inspired by his wife to undertake the project. Without a detailed plan or budget, he embarked on this endeavor. Over the course of six years, he traveled across nine states and two continents, interviewing numerous Apollo astronauts, their spouses, acclaimed authors, artists, art historians, and even NASA mission control directors. Collaborating with music legend Todd Hobin, Muench brought to life a story that might otherwise have remained untold.

Panel Q&A

The screening will take place in the planetarium, followed by an engaging Q&A session with Bill, Todd, Mitch Rothman, founder of Manned Space, and Jerry Carr’s son, Jeff Carr.

Jeff held several positions during his NASA career, including Director of Public Affairs, News Chief at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, and Special Assistant to the NASA Administrator, providing critical transition support and lending insight to key issues and activities for NASA during the early months of the Clinton Administration. He also served as press liaison for the Astronaut Corps and as the “Voice of Mission Control” for more than 40 Space Shuttle missions. Jeff holds three Telly Awards for national achievement in media production.
